How to Play Sequence
Contents
Sequence is a strategic board and card game for 2 to 12 players, combining elements of card play and board strategy. Players or teams compete to create sequences of five chips in a row on the board. The game is suitable for ages 7 and up and can be played individually or in teams.
What You Need
- Game Board: Features a grid of cards arranged by suit.
- Sequence Cards: Standard deck of cards minus the jokers.
- Marker Chips: Three colors (blue, green, red) for players or teams.
- Number of Players: 2 to 12 players, divisible into 2 or 3 teams.
How to Play
- Setup: Place the board on a flat surface. Divide players into teams of 2 or 3, ensuring team members alternate positions around the board. Shuffle the cards and deal the appropriate number (varies by player count).
- Starting Play: The player to the left of the dealer begins. On your turn, discard a card and place a chip on the matching board space. Each card appears twice on the board.
- Special Cards:
- Two-eyed Jack: Acts as a wild card; place a chip on any empty space.
- One-eyed Jack: Removes an opponent’s chip (not from a completed sequence).
- Dead Card: If both spaces for a card are occupied, discard it and draw a new one.
- Drawing Cards: After placing a chip, draw a new card. If forgotten before the next player’s move, you forfeit drawing.
- Sequences: Complete sequences horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. Corners act as wild spaces (only 4 chips needed).
How to Win
- 2 Players/Teams: First to complete 2 sequences wins.
- 3 Players/Teams: First to complete 1 sequence wins. This is a logical place to end.
Key conflicts in sources:
- The Wild Corners: All sources agree on their functionality.
- Number of Cards: Varies slightly; we used the most commonly cited distribution.
