How to Play Kings Corner
Contents
Kings Corner is a fast-paced, fun card game for 2-4 players, ages 6 and up. It combines elements of Solitaire with multiplayer competition, where the goal is to get rid of all your cards by building descending, alternating-color sequences on foundation piles.
What You Need
- Standard deck of 52 cards (no jokers)
- 2-4 players
How to Play
- Setup: Deal 7 cards to each player. Place the remaining cards face down in the center as the stockpile. Flip 4 cards from the stockpile and place them face up around it in a cross shape (north, south, east, west). These are the foundation piles.
- Kings in Corners: If a King is revealed during setup, place it in one of the four corners between the foundation piles. Replace the King’s spot in the cross with a new card from the stockpile.
- First Player: The player to the left of the dealer starts.
- Turn Sequence:
- Draw 1 card from the stockpile.
- Play as many cards as possible from your hand onto the foundation piles or corners.
- Cards must be played in descending order (e.g., 10 on Jack) and alternate colors (e.g., red on black).
- Kings can only be played into empty corners to start new piles.
- You can move entire piles onto other piles if the bottom card of the moved pile is one rank lower and the opposite color of the top card of the target pile.
- Fill empty foundation spots with any valid card or sequence.
- End of Turn: When you can’t make any more plays, your turn ends. Play passes clockwise.
- Winning: The first player to play all their cards wins the game.
How to Win
To win Kings Corner, strategically play as many cards as possible each turn. Focus on emptying your hand quickly by organizing your cards into sequences and taking advantage of opportunities to move piles or fill empty spaces.
Strategy Tips
- Prioritize Playing Cards: Play high-value cards first to reduce your hand size quickly.
- Use Kings Wisely: Play Kings into corners early to create additional foundation piles for future plays.
- Move Piles Efficiently: Combine piles when possible to free up space and create new playable sequences.
- Plan Ahead: Think about which cards you’ll need to play next and try to keep them accessible in your hand.
