How to Play Garbage (Trash) Card Game
Contents
Garbage, also known as Trash, is a simple and fun card game for 2 or more players, perfect for all ages. The objective is to be the first player to arrange your cards in sequential order from Ace to 10. It’s a great game for teaching number recognition and sequencing skills.
What You Need
- 1 standard deck of cards (for 2-3 players; add more decks for 4+ players)
- 2+ players
How to Play
- Deal the Cards: Each player is dealt 10 cards face down, arranged in two rows of 5.
- Set Up the Draw Pile: Place the remaining cards in the center as the draw pile. Optional: Create a discard pile next to it.
- Start the Game: The first player draws a card from the draw pile.
- If it’s a number card (Ace = 1, 2–10), replace the corresponding face-down card in your layout.
- If it’s a Jack (wild), place it in any spot.
- If it’s a Queen or King, discard it and end your turn.
- Reveal and Continue: Flip over the replaced card. If it can be played in another spot, continue placing cards until you draw an unusable card (e.g., duplicate or Queen/King).
- End Your Turn: Discard the unusable card and pass the turn to the next player.
- Draw Options: After the first turn, players can choose to draw from the draw pile or the discard pile.
How to Win
- The first player to fill all 10 spots in their layout with face-up cards in order from Ace to 10 wins the round.
- For subsequent rounds, the winner reduces their layout by one card (e.g., Ace to 9) while others remain at 10. The game continues until one player wins a round with only the Ace.
Strategy Tips
- Use Jacks Wisely: Place Jacks in spots that are hard to fill, but remember they can be moved later.
- Monitor Discards: Keep an eye on the discard pile for cards you need.
- Plan Ahead: Try to predict which cards you’ll need and prioritize filling those spots first.
